Choosing a racing manager: the pre-season checklist
Most people pick a racing manager by its screenshots and quit it because of its calendar. Run through these six questions before you register anywhere; they take five minutes and save a season.
1. Which chair do you want?
Racing managers split into two families. In most you are the team principal: you hire drivers, develop the car and set strategy. That is GPRO, iGP Manager, Racing Boss and MyGPTeam, and IMoto does the same for a motorcycle team.
In the other family you are the driver. My Racing Career starts you in a junior formula and lets you build a career, with team management as an optional extra. BATracer puts you in the car with a team-mate. Neither choice is better; they simply feel different. A principal worries about budgets, a driver worries about the next contract.
2. Live calls, or plan and watch?
This is the biggest fork in the road. In iGP Manager races run in real time against other managers and you call pit stops, tyres and fuel while they happen. Everywhere else on our grid you prepare beforehand and the simulation runs the race — you can watch, but you can’t steer.
Live games are more exciting and more demanding: you need to be there. Planned games are calmer and fairer to people with jobs, children or time zones. Be honest about which one your week can carry.
3. Read the calendar before the car
Look up when races actually happen. GPRO runs two fixed race nights a week, Tuesday and Friday at 20:00 CET, and Racing Boss also races twice a week. iGP Manager lets you choose between drop-in sprints and scheduled leagues. BATracer and My Racing Career have races going most days, and your load depends on how many series you enter.
A fixed calendar is a gift if it matches your evenings and a burden if it doesn’t. The best game for you is often the one whose race night you can keep.
4. Read the money page like a contract
Every game on our grid is free to start. The questions that matter come after that:
- What do paid extras actually do? GPRO lists “No pay-to-win features”. My Racing Career states its premium account and coins don’t improve driver performance.
- Is there a subscription? iGP Manager’s changelog mentions subscription perks and league boosts.
- Are prices shown before you register? Often they aren’t — and that is worth knowing too.
- Is the money side explained on the official site, or only in a forum thread?
If a game is vague about what money buys, assume the worst and enjoy being pleasantly surprised.
5. Platform and language
If you play on a phone, start with iGP Manager, GPRO or My Racing Career, which have apps. BATracer is clearly a desktop game. If you want an interface in Italian, Hungarian or Finnish, GPRO, iGP Manager, My Racing Career and Racing Boss offer all three; MyGPTeam and IMoto offer Italian; BATracer appeared English-only when we checked. Our timing screen lists all of this in one table.
6. Look for signs of life
Browser games can outlive their players. Before you invest a season, check the official site for:
- a current season number or a countdown to the next race;
- a changelog, journal or news page with recent dates;
- a forum or chat with recent posts;
- a working registration page.
Every game on our grid passed these checks in October 2026. That isn’t a guarantee for next year, so it is worth thirty seconds of your own before you sign up.
A quick matrix
If you want our shortcut, here it is. Want live calls and a phone app: iGP Manager. Want a calm, deep, long project: GPRO. Want to be the driver: My Racing Career. Want economics and twice-weekly races: Racing Boss. Want history and graphs: BATracer. Want labs and auctions: MyGPTeam. Want two wheels: IMoto. Then read the glossary before your first setup screen.
